In this day and age, many people view prophets as those who have dreams and visions that come from a divine source. While this is true in a biblical sense, there are also many people in our contemporary world who have been led by the spirit to dream great dreams and have great visions for their families, churches, businesses, communities, nations, and the world at large. These people may not necessarily have visions or dreams akin to those of biblical prophets, but they can still be led by God to build the skills required to make them successful in different arenas just as Daniel and Joseph were in the Bible. Such can be your average Joe or Jane working in a secular field but they are servants of God who are led by his spirit to make accurate predictions and projections in their field that leave everyone knowing that they are indeed men and women of God.
For example: A lawyer might be able to make a prediction about the outcome of a case that is borne out to be true. A doctor might have a vision for a medical breakthrough that will transform lives. An entrepreneur might dream up new business strategies that are so successful, they revolutionize an entire industry. An actuary might have a vision for creating more accurate models of risk that allow companies to understand their exposure and manage it better. An Engineer might foresee the future of technology and create something new that has never been done before. An Economist might be able to accurately predict market trends and make sound investments. A Politician may dream up a new policy that will bring peace and prosperity to their nation.
These people have been blessed with the grace and ability of God, to dream great dreams and to have the courage and determination to follow those dreams. They are people who are led of the Spirit, they have a burning passion and vision for the future, and they are driven to make a difference in their respective fields. Though we may not be able to say conclusively that such people are prophets in the Biblical sense, we can clearly see that these are God's servants who manifest in the modern day a measure of the prophetic spirit and gift.
In John 16:13, Jesus said "When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth and he will tell you what is yet to come." It is no surprise then that we are seeing so many people in the world today who have been given the gift of the Spirit and with it, the grace and ability to dream great dreams and to make accurate predictions and projections for the future. These people may not necessarily be prophets as defined in the Bible but they are God's servants who have been given the gift of the Spirit and they are making a positive impact in their respective fields. These people truly display what it means to be led of the Spirit, to have a burning passion for the future and to make a difference in the world.
The Bible refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of Prophecy. We see this in Revelation 19:10 where it says: "For the Spirit of Prophecy is the testimony of Jesus." Jesus also said that the Holy Spirit "will not testify of himself but will testify of me." (John 15:26) Thus, all prophecy is ultimately about testifying to the truthfulness and power of Christ. This means that when we are led of the Spirit, our lives become testimonies to what God has done, is doing and will do in our lives and in the world. We can look to the example of Daniel and Joseph in the Bible who were both men of God and had the spirit and gift of prophecy. Both men were not full time ministers but rather worked in secular governments. Also, the dreams and visions they had had much to do with managing the issues of governance that both Egypt and Babylon were facing at the time.
We can see then why so many modern-day people are manifesting a measure of the prophetic spirit and gift as they dream great dreams, have visions, build skills and make predictions and projections that impact their respective fields. These people truly display what it means to be led by the Spirit of God in our modern day. They are a manifestation of God's promise in the book of Joel 2:28 where the Bible says: "And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions." These spirit filled modern-day servants of God may not necessarily have the same type of Dreams and Visions as the Biblical prophets did, but they are still men and women of God who have been blessed with the grace and ability to know the truth of what is happening presently in their fields and also have insight into what is yet to come.
Therefore, although you may not be a prophet as defined in the Bible, we see from these examples that it is possible by God's grace to access the prophetic power of His Spirit and manifest the prophetic gift in your profession and field. In the same way that Daniel and Joseph used their Dreams and Visions for guidance in governance issues, modern-day servants of God can use Dreams and Visions to make accurate predictions that are so precise that everyone will concede they are truly men and women of God. God given dreams, visions, predictions and projections can be great tools that open the door for us to testify like Daniel and say "there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries" (Daniel 2:28). In this way, we can be led of the Spirit to make a positive impact in our fields and help usher in God's Kingdom on Earth.
