Delivering a blessing to people who do not appear to deserve it can be frustrating. It is as if your efforts are met with ingratitude and contempt. Think for instance of a situation where you prepare a meal for someone who does not appreciate it, or maybe you write a proposal for someone who does not care. Perhaps you work so hard to raise funds for someone who does not thank you or you write a book and end up being treated with contempt. You might even be a leader of your community but despite your best efforts to improve it, you are unappreciated and even voted out.

All these scenarios can be related in some ways to the story of Moses coming down from the mountain with the Ten Commandments. God bestowed upon Moses, His chosen messenger to Israel, a precious thing – the law – that was meant to be revealed to Israel. The Ten Commandments were a transcript of God's character and represented His mercy and grace that He wanted to share with His people. However, the Israelites had become rebellious, ungrateful and hard-hearted. While Moses was at the top of the mountain experiencing the mercy and grace of God and receiving a transcript of this same grace and mercy for the people, they were down below worshiping a golden calf and living in disobedience.

One can only imagine how Moses must have felt coming down the mountain to this situation. It is understandable that Moses felt very angry and disappointed at the people’s apostasy and lack of respect for the God who had brought them out of Egypt, the land of bondage, with a mighty hand. However, the way Moses acted is not excusable. Moses was so angry that he broke the tablets containing the commandments and fell on the people with much anger to punish them for their rebellion against God. It is also very possible that Moses broke these precious transcripts of God's mercy and grace because he felt that such people did not deserve a great blessing like that.

Now, although the people were in this deplorable and regrettable condition, it is abundantly clear that God knew that the one thing they needed was a show of His mercy and grace, something that Moses had received from Him at the top of the Mountain but that he did not faithfully deliver to the people below. From this story we learn that a messenger must deliver the blessing he has been given for the people despite how they may be reacting or responding to the message. God knew that the people of Israel needed His law – a precious thing – to help them grow in character and become more like Him, and it was Moses’ duty to deliver this blessing faithfully.

No matter the people’s reaction or lack of response, a messenger must deliver the blessing he has been given to the people. Moses ultimately did this, even if it was not in the way God originally intended.  He had to go back up the mountain, receive another set of tablets, and come back down to give the people what they needed to become more like God. The story of Moses coming down the mountain with the Ten Commandments serves as a reminder that, even in our own lives, we must faithfully deliver God’s blessings to the people and never be deterred by their reactions or lack of response.

This story also reveals a great truth: God knows exactly what people need and He will not keep His blessings from them even if they do not appear to deserve it. Also, this story shows us that there is one thing that people desperately need -a revelation of the mercy and grace of God. This is why it is so important for us to do our best to faithfully deliver this message and commit ourselves to prayer and intercessory work so that God's blessing can reach as many people as possible. God needs His messengers to be faithful in delivering the blessing of his mercy and grace to undeserving people.

So, deliver the blessing to your spouse even though they may not look like they deserve it. Deliver the blessing to your family members even though they may be disobedient and ungrateful. Deliver the blessing to your co-workers even though they may not seem to appreciate it. Deliver the blessing to your friends even though they may be rebellious and hard-hearted. Deliver the blessing to your enemies even though they may oppose it. Deliver the blessing faithfully and don't be deterred by their reactions or lack of response. Deliver the blessing for it is a precious thing that God has given you to share with others. Deliver the blessing and show them the same mercy and grace that God showed to Moses and that He has shown to you. Deliver the blessing, it's a reflection of God's character – just like the Ten Commandments. Deliver the blessing and never stop, for that is what it means to be a messenger of God. Deliver the blessing faithfully and let God take care of the rest.
